The debate on Bible-based bylaws in Manokwari must be stopped. Let religion remain a private matter. The state should not be involved in regulating it.

THE plan to regulate Manokwari regency with a bylaw based on the Bible should not be followed through. If it is agreed and passed, the implications could be serious: a possible trigger of horizontal conflict. Fighting between people of different religions is usually caused by misunderstandings and misinterpretations of the bylaw.
Just look at the draft city bylaw. One article bans all public service activities on Sundays, apart from those design
