After setting up office in Surabaya, the President improved the procedures on managing the Lapindo mudflow problem. But without drastic action compensation is unlikely to be paid on time.

PERHAPS President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono needs to set up office outside of Jakarta from time to time as he did last week. For three days, he worked out of the Naval Officers’ Mess at Surabaya’s Juanda Airport. There was a good reason for this choice of location.
