THIS country has many national heroes. Most of them were born from the cauldron of guerrilla war, including those who started the Padri movement in Minangkabau, West Sumatra.

From elementary school onwards, people are taught that the Padri movement was an anti-colonial movement. Two of its main figures, Imam Bonjol and Tuanku Tambusai, are national heroes.
