New Momentum for Deforestation
Next year, the European Union is to implement a new regulation on the sustainability of timber and non-timber products. This could be used as momentum to protect Indonesia's forests.

THE government should not be unduly concerned about the renewal of the European Union Due Diligence Regulation. We already have a Timber Legality Verification System that was improved to become the Legality and Sustainability Verification System (SVLK) in September 2021. Under this new regulation, it is not only timber that must be legal, but also non-timber products related to deforestation and degradation of land.
