PRESIDENT Joko Widodo is increasingly ignoring the importance of having a cabinet of experts in bringing about effective governance. As he nears the end of his terms, Jokowi seems to increasingly appoint ministers in order to share out power. The appointments announced last week even give the impression of having been made to strengthen his political position in the run up to next year’s presidential election.

It is obvious now that Jokowi
