We Need Public TV

We need public radio and television as media of public communication, in particular to prevent the negative effects of consumerism.

TVRI (Indonesian State Television) celebrated its 40th anniversary last Saturday. Forty years is a mature age for a person, but apparently not so for TVRI. That is, if its present condition is to be taken as a measure: financial difficulties, disagreements between its leaders, and—most importantly—the loss of its viewers some time ago. This latter problem is caused by the emergence of private television stations in 1990.
