Radicalism vs Modernism

A narrow understanding of religion lies at the root of radicalism.

RADICALISM and fundamentalism are often associated with a rejection of modernism. To the religious hardliners—especially in the Jewish, Christian and Muslim traditions—modernism is held responsible for the marginalization of the role of religion in society. Modernism which gave birth to secularism—the separation of the roles of the state and religion in public life—is blamed for the erosion of morals in society.
