When Tempo was announced the winner of the Editors Lab innovation competition by Evangeline de Bourgoing, program director for the Global Editors Network (GEN), in Vienna, Austria, two weeks ago, all of us at the Tempo office at Palmerah, West Jakarta were stunned. This is the first time Tempo was invited to send a team to compete in the media hack-a-thon-we would have been happy just to reach the final round.
Tempo is fully aware that digital technology is a new battlefield in the media industry. However, transforming that understanding into a new work scheme, new products, new innovations and perspectives will certainly take time.
Adaro's Clarification
WITH regards to the Royalty Vs. Refunds article published in Tempo's June 13-19 issue, we, Adaro Energy, as effective shareholders of Adaro Indonesia (Adaro), wish to deliver our clarification. The article's subtitle contains inaccurate information that does not correspond with actual facts, stating that Adaro is one of the five royalty defaulters with arrears amounting to Rp1.2 trillion and US$399 million. This could potentially cause misperception among readers.
Right of Reply from the President's Press Office
IN response to the A Lot of Lobbying for Rosneft cover story published in Tempo's June 6-12, 2016 issue, we need to express our clarification and objection towards several issues we deem as inaccurate and not based on facts. The corresponding matters are as follows:
The Term Yahweh in Bible
PRESIDENT Joko Widodo must immediately order the Indonesian Bible Association to stop damaging the Indonesian language in translating the Bible. The association has translated the term Yahweh to 'Tuhan' and 'Allah' although according to the rule, such names should not be translated.
Severe Punishment for Sex Offenders
THE many cases of violent sex crimes are an indication of an ongoing moral crisis in Indonesia. Following the rape of 14-year-old YY by 14 men, another victim surfaced this May, the 19-year-old girl EP. She was found dead with numerous wounds on her body and a hoe forced into her lower parts. Three men were the perpetrators; one of them was her own boyfriend.
The State Must Punish Corruptors
Corruption has become such a common practice. During the last few months, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has arrested corruptors of all kinds, from reclamation bribers to a fugitive in the Bank Indonesia liquidity support case. The state needs to contemplate this.
