The KPK is looking into suspected corruption taking place during the divestment and sale of the West Nusa Tenggara regional government’s shares in the Newmont gold mining company. Governor Muhammad Zainul Majdi held funds in personal bank accounts belonging to himself and his wives. A Bakrie Group company was involved as well.
Despite having evidence of a flow of funds and calculating state losses, the KPK is not ready to name any suspects in the Newmont divestment case. Some are insisting a financial audit be conducted.
Working with the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) are investigating suspected corruption and money laundering by Governor of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Muhammad Zainul Majdi in the case of stock divestment of Newmont Nusa Tenggara.
