AN unfinished monument of a boat stands at the start of the road leading to the village of Lambung, Meuraxa, about 5 kilometers from the city of Banda Aceh. This is the entrance to the village which is located 2 kilometers from the edge of the beach of Ulee Lheu, Banda Aceh.

The monument is being built to commemorate the dark events of a year ago. When the tsunami came, it was as if this village of around 80 hectares in size became part of the sea
