THE man squints and stares at a stretch of road which heads towards Temareum River, Lambeusoi, Aceh Jaya. He is already 70 years old. However, Ibrahim Ubaidahlocal residents usually call him Boidahis still an imposing figure on the veranda of his food stall.

During this season, when the west wind blows, heavy rainfall carves the road in front of his stall into tracts of mud. Boidah stares at the far end of the road, which is cut off by the river.
