A 30-kilometer-long bamboo sea barrier along the northern coast of Tangerang is suspected to be a marker for claiming land over the sea. Those seeking to control the area reportedly used forged documents, lawyers, and consultants to secure certificates from the National Land Agency.

FROM an altitude of 120 meters, the sea in Kronjo village, Tangerang Regency, Banten, appears like a fishpond. Some parts are shaped like rectangles, while others resemble trapezoids. Up close, however, the area is not a fishpond but a section of the sea marked by bamboo stakes arranged into plots.
