Barely a week into the new year, Indonesia-Australia relations was hit a low blow. An Indonesian special forces officer allegedly found materials at an Australian military training institute which mocked Pancasila, the Indonesian state ideology. On January 4, Indonesian military (TNI) chief Gatot Nurmantyo declared that Indonesia would suspend defense cooperation with its neighbor to the south.
