The young man reached for his money belt to get cash for the coolie at the dock in Maumere, on his way home to Larantuka. The money belt contained Rp32 million in cash, the result of eight years of back-breaking work in Sabah, eastern Malaysia. To his dismay, the money belt was gone, in all likelihood, stolen.
