Digging Up Wadas for a Dam

The government is insistent on excavating andesite rock in Wadas village. Opening the mine to build a dam altered the zoning regulations and ignores potential landslides.
THE sound of 10 excavators at work and over a dozen trucks traveling back and forth could be heard at the hills in Guntur village, Bener subdistrict, Purworejo Regency, Central Java, on Sunday, December 12, 2021. The heavy equipment was excavating land at the edge of a ravine at those hills, which is part of the area for construction of the Bener Dam, a strategic national project which relies on andesite stone from Wadas village.
