Locust Plague in Sumba

The voracious migratory locust is raging through the whole regency of Sumba Island. A balanced ecosystem is key to controlling and preventing this plague.
YONATAN Umbu Radda’s one-hectare rice field was decimated by migratory locusts on Friday, May 20. He could only save two sacks of rice, or about 30 kilograms, from his field in the Umbu Pabal Selatan village, Central Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara. With no locusts, this harvest would have produced at least some two tons of rice.
