Fear of Losing Orangutans

The habitat of the Tapanuli orangutans is pinched between a gold mine and Batang Toru hydropower plant (PLTA). Their population is declining.
BULLAH Hutasuhut pointed to a Tapanuli orangutan nest situated at a height of 25 meters on rambutan and frankincense trees in his yard in Sitandiang hamlet, South Tapanuli, North Sumatra, within the Batang Toru ecosystem. The Pongo tapanuliensis nest, made of leaves, was empty, with only rambutan peels scattered around.
