Electric Vehicles to Curb Air Pollution

The use of electric cars is not seen as a solution to Jakarta’s air pollution. It is also blamed for exacerbating deforestation.

ARGUING the prices are quite costly to drain the state coffers, acting Jakarta Governor Heru Budi Hartono show his reluctance to drive an electric car. Although well aware about electric car’s low emission, he prefers to use a black hybrid car for his daily operations in the city. “The government can’t afford it. (I’d rather) have a hybrid. It’s cheap in maintenance and spare parts,” he said on August 30.
