THE roar of sand mining machines echoed along the banks of the Palu River in Sunju, Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi, on Thursday, January 16, 2025. Each pump extended a pipe approximately six inches in diameter, which was inserted into the riverbed that flows into Palu Bay.
