The Twilight of Keraton Heirlooms

The conflict within the Court of Surakarta has led to the loss of many royal heirlooms, especially of the keris. Economic motive is cited as the main reason for some members of the royal family to sell the heirlooms. Keris are in great demand especially by those who believe in tuah, the supernatural power associated with the dagger. Tempo traces the keris black market and their forging in Central and East Java.
