THE Press Council has a new man at the helm. On May 18, Azyumardi Azra picked up the baton from Mohammad Nuh and became chief of the agency mandated to safeguard media freedom and public interest. Azyumardi says he wants the Council to go above and beyond the boundaries of the usual job routine such as handling press disputes, and raise its voice on issues that concern the public and strengthen democracy.
