COMPARED to houses in the average village, a row of houses in Gabus Kulon is quite luxurious. The walls are made of bricks and the floors are tiled. The residents look better off. But it would be wrong to think that this prosperity was the result of working rice fields surrounding the village which is located in the Gabus Wetan subdistrict of Indramayu, West Java. Everything is from luruh duit (literally earning money) in the city.
