They were tortured to confess to a crime they had not committed: the murder of Muhammad Asrori. Later it was found that Asrori was the victim of the serial killer Very Idam Henyansah. The East Java Regional Police Division for Security & Professionalism already questioned 15 police officers who were allegedly involved in the wrongful arrest.
