The DPR has just enacted a new law on clemency. It will no longer be possible to avoid imprisonment while an appeal for pardon or request for a case review is being considered.

THE tactics used by Tommy Suharto to defeat the law have a bright side. Indonesian lawmakers have since been more careful.
