Last week, the trial commenced of the three judges involved in the controversial Manulife case. Hasan Basri, C.H. Kristi Purnamiwulan and Tjahjono are suspected of accepting bribes to declare life insurance company PT Asuransi Jiwa Manulife Indonesia bankrupt in June 2002. Their verdict received immediate domestic and international condemnation and was later overruled by the Supreme Court, or MA.
