MOST of the people in Sumenep at the eastern end Madura call their kampung Songenneb. Kitab Pararaton written over the period 1475-1485 refers to the village as Sungenep. J. L. Brandes, a Dutch researcher who translated Pararaton, wrote that Songenneb is the name of the village in the tongue of the Madurese.
