“FREEDOM is the recognition of necessity,” said ecologist Garrett Hardin, quoting Hegel (Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel) in 1968. Building on Hegel’s ideas, Hardin, who was concerned about global overpopulation, emphasized, “Freedom to breed will bring ruin to all!”
