The Indonesian government struggles to prevent earnings from exports of natural resources going overseas.
EXPORTERS of Indonesia’s natural resources are no longer free to stockpile their money overseas. The new Government Regulation No. 36/2023 (PP 36/2023) on earnings from exports of natural resources takes effect this August. At least 30 percent of export earnings from four business sectors (mining, plantation, forest industry, and fishing) must be kept in domestic banks, inside Indonesia’s financial system.
