Bank Indonesia relies heavily on short-term securities to safeguard the rupiah. This strategy carries serious market risks.
BANK Indonesia is launching two new instruments to protect the rupiah amid global market turmoil. They are Sekuritas Valas Bank Indonesia (SVRI) or Bank Indonesia (BI) foreign exchange securities, auctioned last week, and Sukuk Valas Bank Indonesia (SUVBI) or BI foreign exchange Islamic bonds, scheduled for November 28. This adds three new instruments to BI’s toolkit, following the earlier launch of Sekuritas Rupiah Bank
