When he attempted to read the poems of Goenawan Mohamad for the first time, Umar Muslim immediately gave up. Umar, who had created catchy melodies from Sapardi Djoko Damono and Toto Sudarto Bachtiar's poetry, considered Goenawan's verses impossible to musicalize.
