The commemoration of the fortieth anniversary of Papuan independence on 1 December passed off peacefully. Around 1,000 people attended the event, which was held in Sentani at the home of Theys Hiyo Eluay, the chairman of the Papuan Presidium Council, who was found dead in mysterious circumstances three weeks ago.
