Ahok's Waiting Game

Tuesday, August 30, 2016

Dozens from the Jakarta Poor People Network, a grassroots organization, last Thursday staged a rally at Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P)'s headquarters in Jakarta. They rallied to express their rejection of incumbent Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok), who plans to run for reelection next year. Clad in T-shirts bearing snide remarks about the governor, they demanded PDI-P support another candidate.

The crowd refused to leave until someone spoke to them. Eventually, Bambang D.H., chairman of the election campaign body and acting PDI-P Jakarta chairman, came out to meet them.
