Police Use Repression to Break Up Protesters

VIOLENCE by police occurred during the mass rally in Semarang, Central Java, on Monday, August 26. Police forcibly dispersed demonstrations against President Joko Widodo’s leadership at the City Hall and the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD). Dozens of protesters experienced breathing difficulties due to tear gas, fainted, and suffered head injuries.
