A New Leader in Tehran

THE Iranian election took place two weeks ago. Nine candidates demonstrated their abilities before 28 million voters. The winner was Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, 49. He is the Mayor of Tehran and a conservative who leads a very simple life. He defeated men of the caliber of Ayatullah Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjania former president and an experienced, moderate ulama who had the support of the United States and economic champions in the West.
