The policy by the Sorong Regent revoking oil palm plantation business permits should be emulated by others. Indigenous peoples need protection.
THE decision by Sorong Regent Johny Kamuru to revoke the permits of a number of palm oil plantations in his region sets a good example. Few regional governments have the courage to take such firm action. Regent Johny even plans to return former oil palm concession lands to owners of customary land use rights, namely local indigenous people, who are dominated by the Moi ethnic group.
