In Indonesia, the endeavor to build a robust research ecosystem is being obstructed by the absence of academic freedom. Our researchers do better overseas.
IF we are not serious about improving our research and innovation ecosystem, Indonesia could become like a rat that dies in a rice barn, as the saying goes. The blessing of our abundant natural resources will turn into a curse if the nation fails to anticipate the negative impacts of the extractive and commodity industries such as palm oil and coal.
