The new leadership of the IKAHI has an opportunity to improve the quality of judges. It needs to open itself up to oversight of judges by other institutions.

THE election of Yasardin as 2022-2025 chair of the Indonesian Judges Association (IKAHI) could be an opportunity to improve the criminal justice system in this country. Rather coming from the criminal or civil chambers, Yasardin’s background is with the religious courts. The replacement of the IKAHI’s leadership could spur judges across the judicial system to make reforms.
