THE European Union is trying to limit deforestation through the new European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) approved by the European Parliament in December last year. This initiative is part of the global agenda to address the climate crisis. Unfortunately, this regulation is a paper tiger because the European Union does not have a sufficiently strong mechanism to prevent products from deforestation entering its markets.
