Ensuring Transparency of Vale’s Divestment

Vale Indonesia is to divest 11 percent of its shares and transfer them to Mind Id. Caution is needed to prevent the entry of freeloaders.
THE government needs to ensure that the divestment of Vale Indonesia proceeds in line with the regulations and is free of the influence of freeloaders. There is no need to force the state-owned company acquiring the divested shares in the nickel company to become the majority shareholder.
Vale Indonesia began the process of divesting a further 11 percent of its shares in January as a condition of being allowed to continue operating in Indonesia.
