THERE is no need for the government to angrily reject the request from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for Indonesia to consider a phased ending of the policy of banning mineral exports, and to not expand it to other commodities. As well as having rational arguments, this proposal could inform a comprehensive evaluation of the downstreaming program that is now in effect for all mining products.
