The current dispute over the selection of presidential candidates and their running mates stems from the nomination threshold. People do not have much of a choice of potential leaders.
EVERY time a presidential election nears, parties unable to propose candidates complain about the presidential threshold. They find it difficult to nominate their own candidates because they need to establish coalitions in order to meet the requirement of 20 percent of seats in the House of Representatives (DPR) or 25 percent of the national vote.
