TVRI (Indonesian State Television) celebrated its 40th anniversary last Saturday. Forty years is a mature age for a person, but apparently not so for TVRI. That is, if its present condition is to be taken as a measure: financial difficulties, disagreements between its leaders, andmost importantlythe loss of its viewers some time ago. This latter problem is caused by the emergence of private television stations in 1990.
