Considering the Jakarta Charter

Members of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) elected in 1999 are currently defending the 1945 Constitution. To simplify matters, changes to the constitution have only been amendments, amounting to 30 articles. Some politicians and Islamic activists have again suggested that the words of the Jakarta Charter ("with obligation to follow Islamic Syariah law for its adherents") should be inserted into the amended constitution.
