Six years after he died during the Mataram army siege, and 35 years after he established Batavia on the ruins of the battle with the English, Jan Pieterszoon Coen, the Netherlands East India Company (VOC) governor of this territory that was formerly part of the Banten kingdom, built six small redoubts.
