Lake Kakaban: The Charm of the Bung's Virgin Island

Lake Kakaban has panoramic views of beautiful corals. Millions of unique non-stinging jellyfish float near the surface. Located near the coral 'golden triangle' inside a reef in the Derawan Islands of Berau Regency in East Kalimantan, this lake has been named a World Nature Heritage Area by UNESCO. Aware of the importance of preserving these jellyfish, people of Derawan Islands work to protect the habitat of this sea creature known as bung in the local Bajau language.

British-born Sophia, 33, floated face down on the lake's surface, peering through her goggles into the water. She would occasionally kick her feet to move to another spot. At one point, she stopped for quite some time, to observe the lake's underwater beauty.

Sophia enjoyed the lake's corals for over a half an hour. She came to the lake with her boyfriend, Waqas. Tempo ran into them while they were snorkeling in Lake Kakaban on the uninhabited island
