Each year Tempo selects a number of individuals who have made contributions to the world of art, literature and music. This tradition has given birth to artists and writers with fresh and innovative ideas, who have opened the door to new artistic possibilities. After a lengthy discussion, the magazines art editors finally selected the names of several young leaders in the arts whom we feel have contributed something new. They are: Martin Suryajaya, Syaiful Aulia Garibaldi, Mondo Gascaro, and the Senyawa Group. We also acknowledge a senior poet, Sapardi Djoko Damono, who is still composing poetry that we feel is more mature and profound compared to that of younger poets. These individuals are Tempos choices as arts notables in 2016.
