THE Regency of North Bengkulu, as in other areas in Bengkulu province, has a very large expanse of idle land and is thinly populated. This 5,548.34-square-kilometer area is the destination of resettlement for densely populated Java and Bali. Today, there is almost a proportional number of migrants in each subdistrict, and the average population growth is 6 percent each year. In 2004, the population totaled 345,455.
