Equal Treatment for Illegal Fishing

The maritime affairs ministry should not be angry when a neighboring country takes action against Indonesian vessels fishing illegally. After all, illegal fishing is a problem for all sides.

THE protest from the Indonesian maritime affairs and fisheries ministry over the burning of three Indonesian fishing vessels by the Australian Maritime Border Command at the end of October should not have been made. The three vessels were part of a fleet of 16 Indonesian fishing boats detained for taking sea cucumbers from the Australian Rowley Shoals Marine Park. That is why they were escorted away and why three ships were burned.
