May I ask, was this article written because the magnetic appeal of the term culinarywhich has a connotation of adventureis currently becoming a public euphoria or because there is a real interest in studying in depth the culinary world of Indonesia from historical and cultural aspects?
Whatever the reason, this special edition has opened our eyes, asked us to take the adventure further and touched our hearts to better appreciate our local foodsand not just to fill our stomachs and have a fun trip.

Ahmad Dedi's right of reply
I WOULD like to exercise my right of reply to the article in Tempo's December 1-7 edition titled Battling Bootleggers. In my view, the article as a whole is very unfavorable because it punishes us as the alleged guilty party and backer of liquor smuggling.
One sentence reads, "Because of concerns about an attempt to tamper with the evidence, three days later they were all taken to the Customs and Exice's East Jakarta heaquarters in Rawamangun." This article is very tendentious, as if the integrity of the Customs and Excise offices dealing with the liquor is in question because they allowed some party to tamper with evidence. In reality, the actions taken against the trucks by the Customs and Excise offices of Merak, Lampung and Palembang were only based on information from the intelligence subdirectorate of the head office.

PT Telkom's Right of Reply
In accordance with Law No. 40/1999 on the Press, especially regarding Article 1 paragraphs 11 and 12 and Article 5 paragraphs 1 and 2, we need to submit our objections, clarifications and denial regarding Tempo's articles titled Faulty Towers and Winners & Losers, published in the magazine's November 17 edition.
PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk (Telkom) considers Tempo's reporting to have failed to accord with the principle of balanced reporting (covering both sides). Tempo did not use accurate data and information. The tone of the article was tendentious and could promote negative public opinion of the company, which might create potential losses.

Batam Immigration Office Full of Brokers
I recently had a disappointing experience at the Batam Immigration office, on Riau Islands, when I sought to process my own new passport. I was obstructed when doing so by brokers within the Immigration office. I hope the new leadership in the central and regional governments, as well as the parliament can do away with this brokering and can discipline those individuals concerned within Immigration.
This incident began when I, together with one of my parents, sought to process my passport a year ago. We deliberately left home early, shortly after the dawn prayer so we wouldn't have to queue long at the Immigration office. Apparently these steps were of no avail as the processing of passports is controlled by brokers. They deliberately joined the queue and even worked closely with officers in the Immigration office, so that, even though we had got there earlier, we were still given the last number for the queue.

Eco Solution Clarifies
An article from Tempo's investigation in its November 3-9 issue sources PT Eco Solution Lombok (ESL). Tempo writes in the lead paragraph that "Thousands of hectares of prime tourism sites around West Nusa Tenggara, from the island of Lombok to neighboring Sumbawa, are occupied by foreigners. Conspiring with Indonesian notaries and authorities and masquerading as investors when they only intend to speculate, they take advantage of legal loopholes to skirt the law, which prohibits foreigners from owning land. They are even buying up protected forestland."
