The Indonesian Military’s attack on the Kiwirok District, Pegunungan Bintang Regency, Papua, has forced hundreds to thousands of people flee to safety.

SHAPED like a rocket, the mortar was equipped with a propeller on its tail. In the photo Tempo received, the artillery was being held by a man wearing the Bintang Kejora or morning star symbol of the Free Papua Movement (OPM). The length of the mortar’s barrel found in Kiwirok District, Pegunungan Bintang Regency, Papua, almost equaled the arm of the man in the photo.
